Spirit and soul are two separate concepts, both equally necessary for existance. Spirit and Soul make up everything, and where they aren't there is nothing. Certain things will align towards one or the other, but the things that are made up fully of one or the other are not usually things in the strictest of senses.
Spirit is creation, energy, magic, and life. On its own, it manifests as forces and energies. It is lightning, it is heat, it is fire, it is raw magical energy. Spirit manifests as the potential of life without the image of it. The sun is spirit. There can not be singular spirit.
Soul is identity, emotion, selfhood, and mind. On its own, it manifests as phenomena. A gentle breeze from nowhere, a sourceless sound, a shadow in the corner of your eye. It can be a wave of emotion, washing over a crowd. Soul manifests as the image or echo of life without the spark. The moon is soul. A soul can exist and Soul exists.
Due to the nature of Sun and Moon, Day and Night are each aligned. The Day is spirit aligned, and night is soul aligned. The changing of seasons is also linked to the times of year aligning towards one or the other, as well as phases of the moon. The seasons and length of days and nights can be disturbed by powerful anomalies, though these will always balance themselves out over time.
Ghosts are the echoes of once living souls, with little to no spirit left. Maligned are powerfully soul aligned, while the Gods are powerfully spirit aligned. Anyone within these groups can lean towards either alignment. Mortals are not strong in either spirit or soul, and tend to be more balanced but not necessarily. Half-Maligned have a weaker spirit and stronger soul than other mortals.
