During training, Kherin and Ere pretty much always were together on missions and trips and shit. They had been friends for as long as they could remember, so it made sense to them and also the trainers because putting Kherin with anyone else meant the other person was going to be very aggrevated by the end because I fully picture him as having golden retriever/himbo energy, and any team with Ere on it but no Kherin would basically have automatic conflict due to transandrophobia, jealousy, and just a dash of xenophobia. They basically had a choice between two teams with tension or one team that worked together so well they barely needed to speak to each other.
This never caused any issues for either of them, and basically every task they were given went smoothly. However, as time in training goes on, these tasks get more serious. After a particularly difficult hunt, Ere ended up pretty seriously wounded and they were very far from home base.
On the way back, Ere trying his best to not get even more hurt and Kherin basically taking care of him as aggressively as possible, a storm started up. They found some shelter, Kherin went to hunt.
Ere decided to get a fire started, which he's pretty good at. By the time Kherin returned, Ere was sat by it with his clothes drying nearby, but shivering. Kherin got the food cooking, got his wet clothes off (oh BTW they saw each other naked plenty. Kherin and Outerra were basically the only folks Ere's ever been comfortable being naked around.) He sat next to Ere and shared warmth, since Ere legit at this point had infected wounds.
In this moment, the sheer amount of care Kherin showed towards Ere made Ere feel things he never really had before. He was even blushing, but Kherin either didn't notice or didn't mention.
Their friendship pretty much went back to normal after that and Ere never really felt that way as strongly after the whole trip ended.
